Why is the 747 the ONLY Plane With a Hump?

The 747 is an aviation icon, thank's in large part due to that odd looking hump it's got. How'd it get there? And why doesn't it stretch ALL the way to the back of the aircraft to make a true double decker, like the Airbus a380? Let me explain...
