How To Prune Climbing Roses (Winter)

Climbing Roses can become a tangled mess without regular pruning. In this video I explain how to correctly prune and train climbing roses to ensure they grow neatly against a wall or fence. A well pruned climbing rose will look neater, flower better and be less affected by fungal diseases. The climbing rose in this video hasn't been regularly pruned, which is why the branches are not growing neatly along the wires, over time with correct pruning in winter and tying of new branches in summer, the branches can be trained to grow exactly where the wires are giving a very neat appearance.
Always ensure you are wearing tough gloves and a thick long sleeved top as the thorns on climbing roses can be very sharp.
