Ep46 2nd Launch Failure, 10KW 48V Electric Motor Conversion Failure

Well, this video is trying to explain and document what went wrong on my launch. I was glad to get the hole in my boat fixed, although it was a very small leak and my bilge would have coped fine, I just didn't want to take any chances. That repair included grinding down to bare fiberglass, laying out 4 layers over a ground out hairline crack, and then using interlux 2000E for a base protection, then antifoul MicronCSC.

The "2nd" failure was that my motor would only run at a very low amp draw. As in barely turning, and not effective to push my boat anywhere. As soon as I pressed the throttle to move the controller would beep, then reboot itself. It took 4 days in the temporary slip to figure this out, and 4 trips to Orangeville to finally get a new controller.

The "3rd" failure was that when I installed the support/thrust bearing on the shaft in front of the shaft pulley, I didn't take into account how much strength of force the propeller turning in the water had and my temporary mount broke. I had to grind it out, and redo the entire mount. Ultimately it was enough to get going, and got me into my permanent slip, but still needed further refinement as I had difficulty getting the alignment right.

Aside, I hope some of this learning experience helps out a fellow sailor thinking of converting to electric and wanting to do a DIY. There is a lot of misinformation and/or examples of DIY that I could find that discussed some of these pitfalls. I'm sure someone is going to post some here in the comments.
