Climbing Slovenia's Highest Mountain in Gale Force Winds

The wind close to the summit was blowing so hard I couldn't see anymore.
This seemingly straightforward route had just turned into a hardcore challenge...

In September we went to Slovenia to climb its highest mountain, Triglav.

The weather forecast for the period we were there didn't look promising, so we had to fit a peak usually done over 2-days into a one-day push.

The journey to the summit of Triglav is beautiful, with views of the Julian Alps all around.
Its summit push, usually packed with crows of people was now quiet due to the extreme winds, and we couldn't have been happier that the ridge was lined with a Via system, offering peace of mind when on the thin ridges - especially when the wind gusts were unpredictable.

Climbing to the summit of Triglav is a beautiful experience no matter the weather, and one I would recommend to anyone wishing to become a true Slovenian 😉
