difference between Catholic and Protestant Bibles

Ever wondered about the difference between Catholic and Protestant Bibles? 📖 Let’s dive into the history! During the Reformation, Martin Luther removed seven books from the Old Testament 👉🏻known as the Deuterocanonical books (Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, 1 & 2 Maccabees, and parts of Esther and Daniel). Why? Luther’s theology of sola fide (faith alone) clashed with these books, which supported practices like prayers for the dead and good works, ideas he rejected. He argued these books weren’t part of the Hebrew canon, though they were widely accepted by early Christians and included in the Septuagint, the Greek Old Testament used by Jesus’ followers and the 73 book canon is and was used by Christians for 1500 years before Luther showed up.
Luther didn’t just remove books👀He also added the word “alone” to Romans 3:28 in his German Bible translation, making it read “justified by faith alone.” This tweak aligned with HIS theology but altered the original text. Ironically, while Catholics are sometimes accused of “adding” to Scripture, factual history shows it was Luther who both subtracted books and added words. The Bible itself warns against this in Revelation 22:18-19: “If anyone adds to these words, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away… God will take away his share in the tree of life.” *MUG is by @nicholelanthier and her awesome shop ❤️#BibleHistory #Reformation #catholic #jesus #catholicism #god #christianity #catholicchurch #catholichumor #bible #christ #christian #MartinLuther #SolaFide
