Retrieval Practice: The Most Important Study Method for Med School & Boards

Ryan Orwig talks about why using RETRIEVAL PRACTICE as a central aspect of studying in med school and for boards.

He starts off explaining the difference between REVIEW (which is often our default setting for re-studying material, which is passive and low yield) and RETRIEVAL PRACTICE (which is less intuitive, more difficult, but higher yield).

Then he outlines and models three ways to set up and deploy RETRIEVAL PRACTICE with samples of medical school and board-prep materials.

This video provides some instructional and philosophical framework for using RETRIEVAL PRACTICE instead of overly relying on REVIEW, especially within the context of studying medicine and board-based material.

We teach this skill in much greater depth and context in our STATMed Study Skills Class.
