Learn to Paint White Hollyhocks with Watercolor: Negative Painting for the Background

In this video you will learn to paint white flowers with watercolor. The secret to success is in the background. We will talk about a very important technique called negative painting. I will also show how to add details and texture to white flowers with white gouache.

Materials used: Kilimanjaro watercolor paper 300 lb/640 g
Daniel Smith and Holbein watercolors: New Gamboge, Crimson Lake, Magenta, Sap Green, Cascade Green, Anwerp Blue, Cobalt Purple, Cobalt Blue
M. Graham Artist Gouache - Titanium White
Derwent Inktense pencil - yellow
Round watercolor brushes, a flat 1/2" (1.5 cm) synthetic brush for water media, piece of natural sponge.
