How to Auto-Send Professional Certificates for LearnDash Courses!
In this tutorial, discover how to automatically send fully branded, verifiable certificates to your LearnDash course students using Certifier and Zapier.
➡ Try Certifier for free: https://certifier.io/
➡ Read our guide on LearnDash certificates: https://certifier.io/blog/learndash-certificate
LearnDash is a popular WordPress LMS plugin for creating and managing online courses. While it includes a certificate generator, it doesn’t provide ready-made templates. So getting a polished result means working with shortcodes, HTML/CSS, while automation support stays limited.
Certifier simplifies this process by handling the design, generation, and delivery side, connected to LearnDash through Zapier to automate the entire workflow. Here’s how it works:
Sign up at certifier.io and click "Sign up free" — you can use your email and password or log in with Google. Once inside, you'll have 250 free certificates ready to use immediately. To create your LearnDash certificate design, go to the "Designs" tab, click "Create Design," then "Create Certificate Design." Browse the template library and filter by "Course" or "Training" category to find the right layout. Customize the template by uploading your logo in PNG or SVG format, adjusting brand colors and fonts, and editing the course-specific text. Add a "Verification QR code" so students can confirm certificate validity from any device, or use a custom QR code pointing to any URL you choose.
Notice the [recipient.name] fields on your design — these dynamic attributes automatically personalize each certificate at the moment of issue. Preview the layout with sample data, then click "Create Certificate Design."
Next, go to the "Groups" tab, click "Create a group," name it (for example, "LearnDash Course 2026") and select the certificate design you just created. Optionally expand "Enhanced Description" to add course details and skills gained. Open "Email Settings" to configure a branded sender address and customize the email template — this is exactly what your students will receive in their inbox. Click "Save" when ready.
Now head to zapier.com and create a free account. To connect LearnDash, install and activate the "Zapier for LearnDash" add-on in your WordPress admin under LearnDash LMS → Add-Ons — note that this requires an active LearnDash license. Once activated, go to LearnDash LMS → Zapier → Settings and copy your API key. Back in Zapier, set LearnDash as the trigger and Certifier as the action. Choose your trigger event — "Course Completed" is the most common option, but you can also select "Lesson Completed," "Topic Completed," or "Quiz Completed." Connect your LearnDash account using your API key and website URL, select the course to monitor, and test the trigger.
For the Certifier action, select "Issue Credential" and connect your account using an Access Token — generate one under "Workspace Settings" → "Developers" → "Access Tokens." The token is shown only once, so copy and store it securely. Select your group, map the recipient name and email from LearnDash student data, and test the action. The issued certificate appears instantly in the "Credentials" tab in Certifier. Once everything looks good, publish the Zap. From their Digital Wallet, students can download the certificate as a PDF, share it on LinkedIn, or verify its authenticity in one click.
Already have students who completed your course before this automation was live? Export your data as CSV or Excel and use Certifier's spreadsheet upload to issue certificates retroactively — it re-engages your audience and strengthens your brand's credibility with minimal extra effort.
