Planks are one of the most effective core stabilisation exercises but high and low planks activate your muscles differently & may be suited better to each individual:

High plank (hands on the floor) recruits shoulders, chest and deep core stabilisers, improving full-body strength and posture.

The forearm/low plank reduces shoulder load and increases rectus abdominis and transverse abdominis activation, making it ideal for core and spine stability.
