UNIQUE AND UNEXPECTED JOURNEY
It has been a long day with an unusual and unexpected journey.
Surgery time was bumped up and I only needed a nerve block at my elbow not the shoulder.
Things are going my way.
Same anaestelogist as previous surgery who was like "Addisons I remember you, ready to go and comfortable?"
He was confident and I was too with his I GOT YOU GIRL attitude.
Surgery time and as previous surgeries I was wide awake.
Pin removal number #1 only to hear:
"What the heck..."
"this isn't good..."
"it is full puss..."
"the bone is infected..."
"Even the pin is covered in puss..."
"the joint is fractured..."
Pin removal #2
:"what the heck where is it..."
"we can't find it..."
"where did it go..."
"get X-ray.."
"there it is...we cant' get to it..."
multiple attempts to retrieve it were unsuccessful.
"Call dental surgery we need a dental surgical kit.."
"we might need to get Kathleen....do you think she available.."
"what the heck are we going to do..."
Doctor #2
I have an idea...what it...we cut an incision on the other side of her hand and try pulling it through the bone out the other end?"
It was a MASH/Mcguiver kinda move but it was successful.
The pin had migrated into my wrist and was actually moving itself during surgery.
The removal was videoed for documentation of what I was told was a unique situation and the are plan on writing a paper on.
6 weeks of antibiotics to manage infection as per infectious disease orders.
One week in a cast before we know if surgery is a success.
20 minute procure lasted 1 1/2 hours.
I guess we know the talk at the dinner table tonight.
I do it my way.
