Cab Ride Bulgaria 🛤️ HEAVY coal train 🏋️‍♂️ TBD Cargo 44 143 & 44 072: Kalotina - Voluyak

Are you ready for something heavy? 🏋️‍♂️ Would 1675 tons be enough? 😈 This is train 50515. The TBD Cargo coal service, which runs from the mine in Stanyantsi to the Bobov Dol thermal plant.

Pulled by three locomotives from Kalotina, the train leaves the station in the late afternoon and travels east towards Voluyak, where, after a change of direction it will head south to the plant.

TBD is one of the newest cargo operators in Bulgaria and is currenlty operating two pairs of ex-BDZ Class 44 electrics, wchich usally drive in multiple mode - a very useful feature of the Skoda locomotives, that the Bulgarian State Railways never managed to put into good use. 😞

The train on the video is headed by the latest overhauled locomotive that TBD, received from by ČMŽO Přerov - 44 143 along with the first one that the private operator received back in 2016: 44 072. To help overcome the steep ascents right after departure, TBD's 06 303 has been coupled to the back as a pusher loco. It would later on be decoupled at Aldomirovtsi station (31:50).

Passing through the now closed Dragoil station (09:35) and Umlyak train stop (15:59) with a roaring engine sound, this video will also show you a glimpse of late autumn sunset 🌄, seen briefly in Dragoman (21:09). The journey will end at twilight 🌃 in Voluyak station (01:07:00), just near Sofia.

⚠️ But above all, this video also shows, that despite their age and poor maintenance carried out by BDZ, the old Skoda locomotives still have everything it takes to serve faithfully the trains through the Bulgarian railway network. The only thing they need is to be lucky enough to qualify for a quality repair and maintenance.
