Today's question has to do with protecting your online course content and preventing people from stealing it or sharing it when they purchased the program.

“I just purchased this program and I wanted to see your thoughts.
I noticed that you can only log in from one browser or platform at a time. Is this because of a problem with the platform or is this on purpose to prevent people from "sharing", AKA, stealing the course and sharing with other people?”

The answer to that is yes, it’s set up like that intentionally to prevent people from being able to access the course at the same time and diminish the number of people that are going to try to “share” content.

I know this is a big worry for people. You put your blood, sweat, and tears into creating this program and sharing it with the world and the last thing that you want is someone to basically steal from you.

I know it’s infuriating but keep in mind that pretty much every single business in the history of the world has to deal with this problem.

If you had a brick-and-mortar store, you wouldn’t shut down your business because you were afraid of someone stealing a shirt. You’d know that more than likely it was going to happen but you’d also put measures in place to try to prevent it.

I've had my course stolen multiple times from these cheap third-party hackers that get into Online Courses Academy, try to download parts of it, and then post it on a scam website for $200.

Of course, it makes me angry but I think you need to go into it with the mindset that it's just part of the territory.

So when thinking about these things, it's a balance between protecting your content while also not diminishing the user experience.

A lot of membership site platforms have security features available to help protect your content. Of course, they require usernames and passwords in order to access the content but here are a few other features.

1. You can prevent people from simultaneously logging in.
2. Limit the number of IP addresses that a user is allowed to log in with over a specified time period.
3. Only allow videos to be embedded on certain urls.
4. Prevent links to worksheets from being shared.

You can also discourage users from sharing access by incorporating a community or other components in the program, such as a private Facebook group. If you have a really thriving and engaged community, people are going to want to be a part of that.

Finally, you can also have a cease and desist letter ready to be sent out if you find anyone is stealing your IP.
