Lake, Smit & Partners | Prostate Artery Embolization

Prostatic artery embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive treatment that helps improve lower urinary tract symptoms caused by a Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland.

The PAE procedure is performed by an interventional radiologist using microcatheters under imaging guidance to embolize the prostate artery supplying the enlarged prostate gland. The common current form of treatment involves a surgical operation under general anaestheic with hospital stay of several days. This is an alternative form of treatment in an outpatient setting with no general anaesthetic.
