Quick Update for Anyone currently receiving the $600 weekly Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation.
The extra $600 weekly unemployment benefit provided a very good boost that has kept many unemployed Americans afloat throughout the crisis. However it will be ending sooner than the official Friday, July 31st date.
The end date for this benefit has been confusing to many. Depending on the state you live in, unemployment benefit is paid on a weekly or bi-weekly basis with the end date falling on a Saturday or Sunday.
The enhanced unemployment benefit will be terminated earlier as most states will only pay through the week ending July 25th except for New York which will end on July 26th.
Democrats have been pressuring the Senate to approve the HEROES Act that among other measures will provide a second round of stimulus payment for millions of Americans struggling during the pandemic.
But Republicans are not in favor of the HEROES Act and want the economy to reopen as soon as possible amid the outbreak.
Republican senators have described the bill as “dead on arrival” in the upper chamber, while its majority leader, Mitch McConnell, has dismissed the package as “another big laundry list of pet priorities”. And it will not be discussed until after Memorial Day weekend
Nancy Pelosi says: "We’re putting our offer on the table, we’re open to negotiation." The house speaker is aware that the bill's passing is a long shot.
Steven Mnuchin wants another bill to be passed. The Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said there is a “strong likelihood” that another relief bill will be needed as more states start to reopen and the economy struggles to stabilize.
“We are going to step back for a few weeks and think clearly how we need to spend more money and if we need to do that. We’re going to carefully review the situation and I think that there is a strong likelihood we will need another bill, we just have $3 trillion we’re pumping into the economy,” said Mnuchin in an interview with The Hill.
The president also made it clear that even though he is thinking about a second round of payments, currently it is not being discussed and when the time is right he will inform the media about the steps that will be taken. Trump also said that if there is a second payment that it will not be through the HEROES Act.

For most jobless Americans the thought of not receiving this benefit for even one week is a devastating blow. Struggling individuals and households rely heavily on this extra $600. And even the economy relies on people receiving and spending this $600 to keep things moving in the right direction.
