“NAACP Image Awards 2025 Winners, Highlights, and Important Initiatives ”
The 2025 NAACP Image Awards continued with Night 2 of the preshow ceremonies, celebrating some of the biggest names in entertainment. Among the winners were Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy Carter, both taking home prestigious awards.
Fresh off her historic night at the Grammys, Beyoncé was named Best Female Artist and also won Best Album for Cowboy Carter. Meanwhile, Blue Ivy won for Best Character Voice-Over Performance in a Motion Picture for her role in Mufasa: The Lion King.
Other Grammy winners who also claimed NAACP Image Awards included Kendrick Lamar, who won Best Hip-Hop/Rap Song for "Not Like Us," Doechii, who was named Best New Artist, and Chris Brown, who secured both Best Male Artist and Best International Song for "Hmmm" featuring Davido.
On the film and television side, Wicked won for Best Costume Design, Emilia Pérez was named Best International Film, and Nickel Boys received recognition for its cinematography. Star Wars: The Acolyte took home the award for Best Original Score in a Film or TV series.
Malcolm Washington was recognized as Best Breakthrough Creative in a Motion Picture for his directorial work on The Piano Lesson, an adaptation of August Wilson’s play, which he also co-wrote.
The ensemble cast of The Six Triple Eight was honored with Best Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture, while Ebony Obsidian won Best Breakthrough Performance for her role in the same film.
The winners were announced during a virtual, non-televised ceremony, hosted by Angel “ThatChickAngel” Laketa Moore and Marcus Tanksley on the NAACP Image Awards YouTube channel.
The celebrations continue with the NAACP Creative Honors on Friday, leading up to the main event—the televised 2025 NAACP Image Awards—airing live on BET and CBS this Saturday at 8 p.m. from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. This year’s honorees include Dave Chappelle, former Vice President Kamala Harris, and the legendary Wayans family.
Beyond the awards, the NAACP has joined forces with BET Media Group, WME, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole (JSSK) to support communities affected by the recent L.A. wildfires. Together, they’ve launched the Altadena Community Preservation Fund, aimed at protecting homeowners from displacement and preserving cultural heritage in the Altadena, Pacific Palisades, and Pasadena areas.
