For a great number of Bloc Party fans, this gig is one of many cherished memories. And for several Blocheads who weren't even there, it's still one fondly cherished gig that Bloc Party played at the Somerset House. And by that, I'm totally implying the Present. I'm still not sure if this was the live debut of The Present, but it's one of the earliest known live plays of it. Whoever Rachael was, she was a very lucky girl to have this song dedicated to her as a birthday present!! The beautiful impromptu breakdown is never featured again in any other occurrence of 'The Present' was subsequently changed post-after in the album release -later on the charity album, Help! A day in the Life 2005. It makes this single performance all that more special and unique, a marvelous performance never to repeated again unfortunately. A passionate love that left many feeling euphoric to have heard it -once they found this recording anyways. The Present is renowned amongst old Blocheads as one of Bloc Party's best songs ever created and this early live is still heart-warming after all these years. Enjoy!
