Screw Social Media - We're DONE Playing Games | Life Out Loud 19

Someone once told me, "If you're not lying, crying or dying, it isn't news, and it won't get views." Everyone intuitively knows this. There's someone behind the scenes who wants your attention and your money. Social media is a skewed version of reality for so many reasons. Creators make everythings seem perfect because we want to protect ourselves (after all, authenticity is vulnerability). Marketers want you to change--just a little--to benefit their pocketbook. The king we all bow to is THE VIEWER, or more specifically, the view. We will do anything to get your attention, to keep it, and to sell it.

NOT US.

We started going down that road though. Faster videos. More drama. Heightened action. It was innocent enough, but it's time for a change. We love making artsy videos that share our family's life as farmers, sailors, and adventurers, but they started to morph into the very thing we despise about social media. It brings out the best and worst, leaving little room for WHY we live this way.

Now, we're doing a 180, talking about our WHY. Why we are a strong family. Why we sailed the Bahamas. Why we homeschooled. Why we started a farm. Why we live--let's face it--a pretty abnormal life. From now on, the videos are going to be more point-and-shoot, with our core message at the center, rather than fancy editing and special effects.

We hope this change gives folks an insight into our lives unlike any video before, and possibly adds an insight or two into your own life. Who knows?
