What Equipment did Kurt Cobain use? Kurt Cobain's touring gear

Ever wondered how Kurt Cobain achieved his massive on stage sound?

Here at Future Sound Music we have compiled a list of the most used gear used by Kurt Cobain. He would buy whatever he could find in music shops. This meant he had some weird stuff at the beginning.

We've trawled the net, watched videos etc and put together what we think is the definitive list of touring gear. If we've missed anything, let us know!

0:00 Welcome to Future Sound Music's Artist, Touring gear, rig rundown... video. This is the first one we've done and it's gonna be about Kurt Cobain. So before Kurt was interested in Fender Mustangs and Jaguars he would pretty much use whatever he could find in music shops.

0:16 So he used an Epiphone ET270 and a Univox HiFlyer for some reason. On the amp side of things he was using a Randall solid state head with a BullFrog 2x12 cab. I cannot find a picture of that anywhere, if anyone can, post below.

0:28 During the Nevermind tour it started to get a little bit more interesting. He used his 1965 Jaguar pretty much all the way through. Fender have made a reproduction of it. A lot of black Strats were used, usually Japanese and if they were use it usually meant they were going to get smashed.

0:40 He had a horrible Telecaster! Sunburst, painted blue with shapes carved out of it. More Univox HiFlyers! Then of course the 69 Mustang which we know from the Teen Spirit video.

0:50 Taking a look at the back-line we've got a Mesa Boogie studio pres. Very Nice. Some Crest 4801 power amps, which I think there were two of, and Marshall cabs, 1, 2, 3, 4 of them!

1:05 Pedals, he kept quite simple. A Boss DS-1, absolutely brilliant pedal. Small Clone Chorus. Then his DS-1 bust so he got a DS-2 and an Echoflanger.

1:14 During the In Utero tour... Good Grief! More
Univox HiFlyers. Black Strats again for smashy
smashy fun time smash... 1965 Jag again for a little bit and then two new Mustangs; the Sonic Blue and the FiestaRed.

1:25 Same amps as the Nevermind tour. He gave his Marshall cabs to Pat Smear and got himself 8 new ones with different speakers in.

1:35 Eagle peepered viewers might notice a red Marshall mini-stack on stage. It was never used, never plugged in.

Why? What, what?

1:42 Pedals again this time he used a Sans Amp Classic pretty much all the way through, occasionally using it with the DS-2 at the same time. He used a Poly Chorus and the EchoFlanger, whichever
worked that day, and the Small Clone Chorus.

1:59 So in terms of backline and pedals he kept it quite simple. Lots of guitars there, some weird stuff and some really cool stuff. Which is your favourite? Comment below. If we've missed anything, comment below and don't forget to subscribe.
