Matching S log 3 to s cinetone. We all know that S cinetone is the latest and greatest Picture profile that sony have come out with. But sometimes we want to keep our flexibility with our dynamic range and wider color space with Slog 3. So I tried to match S cinetone with S log3 using just the curves tool in Lumetri in Premiere pro cc. The thing I found hardest was getting the Gamma curve the same in the highlights as S cinetone has a beautiful Gamma curve that makes the highlights pop and look super punchy. Its not easy to replicate in the grade so I tried to add contrast in the highlights without blowing them out. Also, I managed to pull back all of my information in the highlight of blown out S cinetone footage. If you ever encounter Overexposed S cinetone footage, give the technique that I use in this video a go and it should save you from a ruined shot. Overall, I love S cinetone and I think it will be my go to for most productions in controlled environments. When Im shooting in uncontrollable environments like exteriors etc then I will likely use S log 3 to give me the most amount of flexibility in post to recover the highlights and to give more Dynamic range to play with.
