Liver tumors are quite uncommon compared to other cancers.

primary liver tumors - these are tumors which arise from within the liver, from the liver cells like the hepatocytes, cholaingiocytes etc. The common Liver tumors are Hepatic adenoma, FNH, Hepato cellular carcinoma, chilangiocarcinoma etc.

secondary liver tumors are those which arise from other organs and spread to the liver, they are called secondaries or liver metastases. both are quite different and it's very important to determine whether we are dealing with primary or secondary liver tumors.

what is the approach?

1) Thoroigh history and clinical examination
2) Endoscopy and colonoscopy
3) CECT abdomen / MRI abdomen
4) Biopsy and IHC

these are the few tests to be done.

Treatment:

For primary liver tumors the aim is to cure by surgery. for secondary liver tumors generally cure is not possible and the treatment is often chemotherapy or biological therapy/ immunotherapy.
