Why Germany had so many accidents with the F-104 Starfighter

West-Germany was the by far the largest operator of the F-104 Starfighter but both the German Air Force and Navy had a disproportional accident rate with this airplane that made the F-104 gain a reputation it didn't deserve. In this video I analyse why Germany purchased the F-104s and why its operations went so wrong to the point Germany lost almost a third of its aircraft in accidents.

One important thing to mention is in this video I only considered accidents that resulted in total loss of an aircraft. It is of course evident that Germany had many more incidents that resulted in at least a damaged aircraft.
