Craigellachie 13 Year Scotch Whisky...Last Great Malts Part 1

The Scotch Test Dummies had the opportunity to unbox and review the box set Vol. 1 of The Last Great Malts series from Dewar's.

HISTORY:

On a rock overlooking the rivers Fiddich and Spey sits a distillery called Craigellachie. Known by locals as "The Rock", it makes no concessions to modern-day commercial styles. The result is an unapologetically unique whisky known to divide the room.

PROCESS:

Built by the eccentric Peter Mackie in 1891, The Distillery was old-fashioned even at the time. That's because he used a production method called "worm tubs" to cool the vapor and condense the spirit back into liquid form. These long, snaking tubes bring out a strong, meaty flavor. This is taste that goes beyond peat.

TASTING NOTES:

Full-flavored with suphury elements, lingering smoke, well-ballanced with fruit, tropical fruits intensify with age.

DRINK STRATEGY:

Craigellachie suggests you drink this 13 year, neat and serve in a Glencairn Glass.

I must admit neat or just a tiny drop is the way to go with this dram.

The Scotch Test Dummies also talk about their love of collecting...one collects dolls and the other boardgames...go figure.
