Woodturning log to bowl.
Through this video, I want to highlight a simple log of beech wood intended for heating.
Its grain, shape and density lead me rather to a large decorative bowl.
So I start and realize that the more I advance in my project the more I am comforted in my initial idea, this log is interesting, it has no cracks, its veining is fine and its color is dark.
After deep digging and fine edges I proceed to long and tedious sanding (especially on this kind of wood).
Then I go to the finish by applying a cream based on mineral oil then a layer of carnauba wax.
This bowl being very large and very aesthetic I decided at the last moment to give it a touch of originality by sculpting in the upper crown with extremely fine patterns (this practice is very very risky especially at the end ... I am now focusing on the ultra finish of the patterns by sanding and waxing the interior.

In the end this log of wood will have required a lot of effort, but it was worth it ..!

Tournage sur bois d'un grand bol dans une bûche de bois de chauffage.
Au travers de cette vidéo ,je souhaites mettre en valeur une simple bûche de bois de hêtre destiné au chauffage.
Son grain,sa forme et sa densité m'oriente plutôt vers un grand bol décoratif .
Je me lance donc et m'aperçois que plus j'avance dans mon projet plus je suis conforté dans mon idée de départ ,cette bûche est intéressante , elle ne présente aucunes fissures ,son veinage est fin et sa couleur tire sur le foncé.
Après un creusage profond et des bords fins je procède au ponçage long et fastidieux ( surtout sur ce genre de bois)..
Puis je passe à la finition en lui appliquant une crème à base d'huile minérale puis une couche de cire de carnauba.
Ce bol étant très grand et très esthétique je décide au dernier moment de lui apporter une touche d'originalité en sculptant dans la couronne supérieur avec des motifs extrêmement fins (cette pratique est très très risquée surtout arrivé à la fin ....Ouf chose faite je m'attarde maintenant sur l'ultra finition des motifs en ponçant et en cirant l’intérieur.
Au final cette bûche de bois m'aura demandée beaucoup d'efforts,mais cela en valait la peine ..!
