Drought worsens with chances for rain this weekend-Bob Jeswald-4/23/2026-11PM Weather Update
The latest drought update is out, and it doesn't look good. Locally, the SEVERE (2/4) drought has expanded across Chambers, Troup, and Meriwether counties.
The EXCEPTIONAL (4/4) drought has expanded north again across South Georgia. Plus, Birmingham is now under a MODERATE (3/4) drought, with nearby areas under extreme droughts (some of these areas were drought-free just two weeks ago).
This Weekend: The end of the school week looks dry, but we will be watching our next front this weekend. Scattered storms will arrive Saturday afternoon, and those rain chances will linger Sunday.
Next Week: Another front will arrive early next week, bringing another chance for measurable rain. Between both systems, rainfall totals fall below 2 inches across east Alabama and west Georgia. This will not be enough to help with out drought conditions.
