Stranger Things star Joe Keery has opened up about the huge influence his four sisters have had on his life and career.

Appearing on the Zach Sang Show, the actor and musician revealed that he grew up “totally outnumbered” as the only boy among five siblings. Joe explained that his song Back on You, released under his music moniker Djo, is actually an ode to his sisters rather than a romantic track.

Instead of writing about relationships, Joe said the song is dedicated to the people he loves most — crediting his sisters Caroline, Lizzy, and twins Kate and Emma for shaping the person he is today. He shared that their support has pushed him to be a better man and has been central to his confidence as both an actor and musician.

Joe also revealed that his sisters have contributed directly to his music, singing backing vocals on several of his tracks. He described their voices as having a unique “familial blend” that can’t be replicated.

He’s previously shared that his eldest sister Caroline encouraged him to join drama club in high school — a decision that helped set him on the path to acting. While Joe’s sisters keep a low profile and stay out of the public eye, their influence clearly runs deep.
