How pacemakers and implantable defibrillators are implanted and used

Experts from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center explain how pacemakers and implantable defibrillators are implanted as well as their function in helping with too-slow or too-fast heart rhythms. You can also learn what medical and electrical equipment you need to be cautious about coming in contact with.

Ohio State's Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital has a dedicated staff of heart rhythm experts (called electrophysiologists) as well as nursing staff, a device management team, research scientists and pharmacists that provide a team approach to evaluating individuals who may need a pacemaker. We are the largest electrophysiology group in central Ohio and have one of the highest patient implantation experiences with devices in the U.S. Ohio State Wexner Medical Center has been a leading pioneer in pacemaker technology, and this experience provides additional expertise and insight for the electrophysiologists -- and improved care for our patients.
