Ashtray Heart" es el tercer sencillo oficial del sexto álbum de estudio de Placebo, 'Battle for the Sun'. Fue lanzado el 21 de septiembre de 2009.
La canción fue grabada en 2008, producida por David Bottrill, mezclada por Alan Moulder en Assauld & Battery Studio, Londres, y masterizada por John Davis en Metropolis Studios, Londres.

" esta canción la he compuesto con dos amigos durante mis vacaciones en Nicaragua. Me llegó porque siempre estaba pidiendo un cenicero. Comenzamos a cantar la palabra en español, que le dio el título a la canción. Inicialmente, no estaba pensada para Placebo, pero me gustó tanto el resultado que decidí incluirla".

“Ashtray Heart” es el nombre de una canción de Captain Breefheart y de ahí nos inspiramos durante las primeras semanas de vida de la banda, cuando nos hacíamos llamar “Ashtray Heart” antes de ser “Placebo”. Nunca fue pensada para ser usada para Placebo; la escribí con dos amigos míos, escribimos canciones juntos por solo diversión y para vendérselo a alguien más. Estábamos de vacaciones en Nicaragua y yo era el único fumador del grupo así que yo estaba pidiendo un “cenicero”. Iba pidiendo un cenicero (en español) por cada restaurante, por cada cafetería… y acabamos incluyendo esa estrofa en español. Teníamos una demo de la canción y la escuchábamos mientras viajábamos por Nicaragua. Así fue como nació la canción. Era una canción muy popera para Placebo, pero al final estaba contento por el resultado así que decidimos incluirla en el disco. Queríamos intentarlo y ver si podíamos permitirnos hacer algo tan pop. Es la primera canción que se ha incluido en un disco de Placebo y que no hemos escrito Stefan y yo juntos.
