Samoan-born, New Zealand-raised tenor Pene Pati grew up surrounded by music. Singing was natural to him. But he recognized something in the world of opera that drew him in — that made him want to take his pastime and make it a career, no matter the obstacles.

The "In Song" video series returns with "In Song: Pene Pati," an intimate portrait of a tenor on the rise, this Thursday, May 27, streaming on YouTube and at San Francisco Opera's website.
