Public media stations in the U.S. – including Arizona PBS – are facing a serious threat that could disrupt their collective mission of service to local communities. President Trump is pushing Congress to claw back $9 billion in already-approved federal funding. That includes more than $1 billion for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. What would this mean for local stations like Arizona PBS? According to the station's general manager, Scott Woelfel, if federal funds are pulled from public media, it could mean fewer programs on TV and the elimination of critical emergency alert and educational outreach services. Woelfel says the biggest asset for public media right now is the public it serves, as the nationwide #ProtectMyPublicMedia campaign continues to gain momentum.
