Are Unofficial GMAT Questions Actually Bad?

Charles explains when unofficial GMAT questions can help, and when they can start quietly hurting your prep.

In this video, Charles breaks down why official GMAT questions should be the backbone of your study plan. Every official question costs thousands of dollars to create because the drafting, editing, testing, and revision process at GMAC is incredibly intricate. That’s hard for any test prep company to replicate.

That doesn’t mean unofficial questions are useless.

If you want extra reps on a specific skill, such as percentages, Critical Reasoning, or graphs and tables, non-official questions can be a good way to build comfort and speed.

Whatever you do though, don't over-rely on non-official questions.

If too much of your practice comes from one test prep company, you can get used to that company’s writing style. Then when you get to the real exam, the actual GMAT may feel just different enough to throw you off.

The takeaway: use unofficial GMAT questions for targeted drilling, but make sure you keep plenty of official questions in your prep, especially as test day gets closer.
