UN General Assembly votes for 'humanitarian truce', angering Israel • FRANCE 24 English

The UN General Assembly on Friday overwhelmingly called for an "immediate humanitarian truce" on the 20th day of the war between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel. This vote has angered Israel because it believes that the truce would allow Hamas time to re-group and comes at a time when its army has announced plans to extend its ground operations in Gaza. Although this vote is a non-binding resolution, it does carry political weight and reflects world opinion, explains FRANCE 24's correspondent Jessica Le Masurier from New York.
