The Roots of the Crisis: Historical Redlining & the Baltimore Lead Crisis

Join Young, Gifted & Green and the Baltimore City Health Department Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program for a quarterly webinar series: Lead Free Futures. While Baltimore has made strides in lead abatement, the city’s legacy of redlining and aging housing stock continues to disproportionately affect Black and Brown families.

This series moves beyond traditional “clinical” outreach. By combining the Baltimore City Health Department’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program’s clinical expertise with YGG’s community-organizing and environmental justice lens, we will transform lead prevention from a rigid compliance topic into an empowering movement for housing justice and health equity. This quarter’s topic is ” The Roots of the Crisis: Historical Redlining & the Baltimore Lead Crisis” featuring Sidique Furet, Community Health Educator III with the Baltimore City Health Department Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program.

This webinar will feature interactive mapping correlating historical redlining with modern lead hotspots. By framing lead prevention as a form of community reclamation, the goal is to build trust and empower residents to dismantle the legacy of housing discrimination in Baltimore. This virtual learning event is open to community.
