Punjabi "French" Toast is NOT SWEET!

The immigrant experience is wild! Who knew the majority of the world knew French Toast as being a sweet dessert and we grew up knowing it could also be spicy and savoury?! I love the Punjabi Canadian version that makes me feel like I'm a kid at my Grandma's all over again. Hopefully you'll give this one a try too!

“French” Toast
Ingredients
4 eggs
1 tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper
¼ tsp turmeric
½ tsp red chilli powder
½ tsp chaat masala
1 tsp Gogi’s Garam Masala
1 tablespoon milk
½ tsp lemon juice
6 slices Wonder Bread
canola oil for frying

In a shallow and wide bowl, whisk together your eggs, spices, milk and lemon juice. Heat a frying pan with 3 tablespoons of canola or light oil on medium high heat. Once the oil is shiny and loose in the pan, dip the sliced bread into the egg mixture and fry in the pan. Cook on each side until crispy and golden brown. Rick’s TIp : give your eggs a quick whisk before dipping each slice as the spices can settle in the bottom of your bowl. Serve hot and fresh with a little sprinkle of Chaat Masala if you’d like. Best enjoyed with a chutney or ketchup!
