Edward Lodewijk Van Halen was a Dutch-American musician, songwriter, producer, and inventor.
e was the main songwriter and founder—with brother and drummer Alex Van Halen, bassist Mark Stone, and singer David Lee Roth—of the American rock band Van Halen.
He was best known for popularizing the tapping guitar solo technique, allowing a rapid arpeggios to be played with two hands on the fretboard.
In 2012, he was voted number one in a Guitar World magazine reader's poll for "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
As of 2007, Van Halen has sold 75 million albums worldwide
According to the RIAA, Van Halen is the 19th best-selling music group/artist of all time with sales of over 56 million albums in the US, and is one of five rock bands that have had two albums (Van Halen and 1984) sell more than ten million copies in the US.
