ActBlue CEO Invokes Fifth Amendment 22 Times In Congressional Hearing
🚨 ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Jones invoked her Fifth Amendment rights 22 times during a House Administration Committee hearing titled "Preventing Fraudulent Donations: Transparency, Verification, and Accountability," refusing to answer questions from lawmakers investigating the Democratic fundraising platform.
Wallace-Jones was called to testify after her attorneys informed her she may have misled Congress in a 2023 letter claiming ActBlue carried out "multilayered" screenings to "root out" foreign contributions. Law firm Covington & Burling found that some steps described in that letter were not always followed, and warned of "substantial risk" — including the possibility of criminal investigation.
ActBlue processed $3.5 billion in contributions in 2024, with an average donation of $50 or less. According to the platform's board chairman, ActBlue accepted up to 38 million contributions in 2024 that had signs of foreign origin. Taking foreign donations and lying to Congress are both illegal under federal law.
The hearing was led by Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI), with participation from Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), Rep. James Comer (R-KY), Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC), and Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI), whose district's 2026 race is expected to be among the most expensive in the country.
