Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill led a grand Easter procession and conducted the traditional Matins service at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow on Saturday night as Orthodox Christians across Russia and worldwide celebrated Easter 2026 on the Julian calendar. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin attended the service where hundreds of believers lit candles from the Holy Fire. Festive prayers, processions and “Christ is Risen” greetings filled the iconic cathedral and churches in Vladivostok, St Petersburg and Sevastopol. Orthodox Easter marks the Resurrection of Christ after seven weeks of Lent.
