Optimization, the Death of Customization, and Why I'm Worried About Elder Scrolls 6

Morrowind let you be a spear-wielding mage in medium armor who was terrible at talking to people. Skyrim let you be everything, and in doing so, made "everything" feel like nothing.
In this video, I trace the Elder Scrolls series from Morrowind's 27 skills and rival factions to Skyrim's streamlined perk trees and open-door guilds, asking a question I think matters for the future of the series: when does optimization stop being accessibility and start being loss? Along the way, I look at what Baldur's Gate 3 proved about player appetite for meaningful choices, what Bruce Nesmith (Skyrim's lead designer) has said about the series' direction, and why Todd Howard calling Elder Scrolls 6 a return to "classic" Bethesda might not mean what you think it means.
