What is a Bus and How to Use it | Music Production for Beginners 3

An audio bus is an audio path through your DAW, which can be as simple as setting a path between the input channel (where a microphone or instruments are coming into the software) and outputs (for example headphones, stereo or surround sound outputs of your audio interface). You can also set up a bus for things like external studio units and effects. This video looks at different vocal tracks in the tracklist, making sure all the vocal tracks go through one bus, in this case a group bus to a group track. This can be routed to another channel in the mix console which can be set up with effects that the vocals will be routed through and then to the stereo output. This setup can be seen and the channels controlled in the channel overview window. The input and output routing can also be seen in the project window. A VCA fader can be used to control audio tracks connected to it. Software instruments like Groove Agent also have internal routing options, creating a very flexible workflow for your audio production.
