YAKUTIA: Global Warming & Melting Permafrost

The coldest place on Earth is on fire. This August the blazes have so far burned through more than 9 million hectares (22 million acres) with more than 200 fires still burning. (That's as big as the entire country of Portugal on fire). The fires raging in Siberia are bigger than fires in Greece, Turkey, Italy, the United States and Canada combined.

Smoke from massive wildfires in Russia's Siberia region has reached the geographic North Pole for the first time in recorded history, it has traveled 2000 miles from Yakutia to the North Pole. Wildfires in Siberia have been releasing record amounts of greenhouse gases - methane which is further contributing to global warming.

Melting Permafrost in Siberia is Unlocking Diseases and Warping the Landscape.

About Me:

I studied petroleum engineering at Gubkin Russian University of Oil and Gas which is the top university in Russia in Russia's biggest industry: Oil and Gas. After I studied geology, I realized how much damage we are doing to our environment and how we are destroying the amazing world we live in. I hope more people can learn about the damage we are doing and I hope we can protect our environment before it's too late.
