Depopulating IC Chips from Small PC Boards in a Kiln
In this video I show how I depopulate small PC boards, such as from hard drives and CD/DVD drives, etc. using a kiln. Basically, the boards are loaded in a basket, the basket is put in the kiln, the kiln is heated above the melting point of solder and the basket is shaken vigorously. Most surface-mount electronic components pop right off. Some through-hole components may need additional coaxing to come out.
