Time to review the freshly released Ticwatch S2.
Disclaimer: the review is based on a week of usage.

The Ticwatch S2 is released together with the E2 and the differences between both – besides the design, are not too many.
At the price of 180 USD you will get a nice AMOLED display with excellent visibility even under direct sunlight; a brilliant strap – and so far this is the component that I liked most about the S2. Snapdragon 2100, 512MB is the RAM, which sounds like not enough, but – most of the time works fine. All that is with wearOS 2.0, which is a nice refreshment – at least now the swiping actions make better sense.
Let's discuss the flaws: Battery life is quite bad. Performance is exactly as sluggish as with the Ticwatch Pro – because of the processor.
- the build quality – or the lack of such. Yeah, the S2 marketing campaign refers to US-military grade durability – and for most of the people – the cheap feeling plastic doesn’t really count as too durable. Sure – it makes the watch lightweight, but I cannot quite see this watch being durable.
- no NFC – therefore no google pay.
- the display – 400 x 400 pixels – good resolution, but there’s something not right about it. It’s just nothing too great, and although visibility is not an issue – it certainly cannot compete with some of its more popular competitors.
My worst finding out of these is the inability to make phone calls. Because there is no speaker – looks like in order to get the water resistance act properly.
The design is also something that I’d criticize. Few weeks ago you’ve had a lot of negative comments about the design of the Amazfit Verge – I’ve seen comments about the verge being too "plastic", looking like a "child’s toy", or a 10-dollar Chinese watch-gimmick. The S2 in reality looks to be made out of much cheaper materials, and only the carbon-fibre texture gives the feeling of something not too bad, but it is of course not genuine carbon fiber. Everything about the S2 is plastic, and to say a good thing about that – at least is very lightweight!
Few good words about the software – separate swimming mode, and nice enhancements of the tic-software ecosystem. Tic health, tic exercise, tic pulse – and the Mobvoi app – they are getting better and better and its nice to see Mobvoi being active on the software side.
At the end – if you are looking for alternatives – Samsung Gear Sport – with NFC chip, barometer, and most of the features of the Ticwatch S, with the remark it is running a different operating system – it is just a bit more expensive. Huawei Watch 2 is quite a good alternative, although around 50 to 100 bucks more – you can find it heavily discounted from its initial price! And it packs better battery life, NFC payments, phone calls and all that – with the convenience of Wear OS.
