one on the far side of any length of building that you want to establish so
0:03it's basically here we've got three foot stakes driven into the ground embraced
0:07in both directions
0:08we have a screw on top we can attach a string line and pull talk to the other
0:12board on the far side of this wall line
0:15we can then remove this screw or we can add additional screws and pull our
0:18strings to either side to get right on exactly where we want to be in our
0:21corner and also allows us to get perfectly square in those corners this
0:25is going to give us a exact definition of where we're going to place our forum
0:28boards and we have established rough great here but we're still going to be
0:32off a little bit from perfect level from side to side
0:35so what we want to do is find the high point with the high point we can then
0:38level out from there with our forum boards and we'll be able to fill around
0:42the outside of the form boards to hold the cut the wet concrete in place as
0:44report
0:45that's easier than digging the footings down even further into the ground
0:48i'm using what's called a water level and I've got some red food coloring in
0:52there that makes it really easy to see the top line of that water now the basis
0:56of a water level is that water will always find level and gravity
1:00so if i am here standing at this end i can measure down to the ground and see
1:05my distance up to the top of this one of this read this red line here
1:10that's established by the water is 34 inches I have a helper on the other side
1:14of this line in the far corner he's measuring the same over there now for
1:17example if they come in at thirty four and a half inches
1:20there's a half extra inch between the top of the red water line and the ground
1:25that means that they are actually a little bit lower on that side because
1:28the numbers bigger so that they have further to go before they get to the
1:31ground so we know that that it would be lower
1:34that's the case here now as we go this direction we had a different finding we
1:38found that that end was a little bit higher so that a smaller number we had
1:4112
1:42excuse me 33 and a half over there instead of 34 so we know that we've got
1:46some higher corners in some lower corners right now that we've established
1:48the high corner
1:50we can go from there and pull out the rest of our forum boards for a small
1:53structure like this it's easy to do it just like that and then level them as
1:56they go
2:08when you're setting up the phone
2:09you want to cite down the edge of the form to look for a crown
2:14this direction coming up or down as crown and also some sway from side to
2:19side this way if you have crown you want to crown it up so that you're not
2:23creating holes in the middle of your slab
2:26if you have some sway you want to sway out to the end or bow out to the outside
2:30I'm exaggerating that in this case like this because then we can adjust it and
2:34push it back in and stake it in place
2:36if it's going the other way it's much harder to pull the board back out and
2:39stake it
2:40so you just look down the edge of it here and i can see that I've got some
2:44bogo going out this way and my crown is just right like that so we'll leave it
2:50just as it is here to attack the forms are using what's called a duplex nail
2:57it's basically a nail was to head so we can drive it all the way down to this
3:01head makes contact with the wood and pulls it tight and yet it leaves us
3:04ahead to pull our hammer out later and and pull this back out what we want to
3:07strip the forms now before I get too close to nailing these two together
3:11I want to nail this duplex in until it's just poking out of the other side was
3:16just poking out to the side I can line these two up hold them in place and one
3:19solid whack will put them together that way I'm not banging it and having things
3:22move around on me as I go I want to be sure that the tops are lined up nice and
3:28flush one shot lock them together
3:32so now i can go back and tighten this up by having them later but i just wanted
3:36to get it in
3:37now i can adjust everything make sure i'm perfectly flush which I am in this
3:40case and i'll drive home in order to square up the corner we're going to use
3:46what's called a 3 4 5 triangle
3:48basically all that is is I measure three feet in this direction and market four
3:54feet in this direction and mark that down here and then the hypotenuse of
3:59that triangle is 5 feet so measure from one side marketing at the five and over
4:04now in this case I'm off
4:07I've already squared some of the other corners and so I know that there's
