(In)voluntary Archspire Cover - 15% Faster!

So, this will be my last video for a while. As much as I like making youtube videos this is not why I am a musician. (I actually started making music for the wrong reasons, so I know what I'm talking about) I am a musician because I want to create music and that's what I have practiced for all these years. I am not a full-time musician, so my time with music is limited. In the past weeks and months I have noticed that it's not possible for me to successfully do everything I want to. So I really had to think about what my goals and ambitions are, and that is: creating music.

I don't want to be known as a Youtube entertainer, which most full-time music youtubers are now, and I don't even want to be known as that great cover guitarist. If I want to be known for something it's the music I create. Wait, you can even cut that. That shit is not about being recognized. Music shouldn't be about that and that's why I now take a step back.
(Btw, there's a great TED-Talk form Joseph Gordon-Levitt where he talks about how craving attention makes you less creative - which sort of explains my decision here as I totally agree with him)

With my current schedule I either have to put all my time into youtube or into writing music. I couldn't make both work at the same time. And that's why I came to this decision. (Apart from various riffs and licks I couldn't get anything else done. My goal is an EP before my 30th birthday btw. (Februrary next year))

I know, the people that have been following me here for a while have read all about my great plans and what I want do. And I'm sorry that I don't deliver. I hope I'll get a chance to dig into all these topics, like my technique and stuff, later but in the end I'm just a regular dude with a regular day job where music is just a hobby. So my own needs come first. And that's what art should be about: expressing yourself, not what other people want. (Sorry about that, I'm really fed up lately with all the capitalism in art - no matter if movies, video games or music). I don't want to get to "philosophical" here as that makes me get diarrhea.

So, that's why I have chosen this song as my last one. It's "Involuntary Doppelgänger" by Archspire. People have jokingly requested me playing Archspire faster and I couldn't say no to this challenge. They are a tough one for that though. While most of the music is possible to play faster their sweeps are already at the limit of what you can do. I mean, even at regular tempo, it's almost impossible to play them 100% clean. Technically I could've played this without any sweeps if I would've played all solos. As Tobi only plays them in Deans solo section and I follow Tobis parts. (Because he plays a 7 string and Dean a 8 string). But I decided to not play Deans solo, as the rhythm part behind it is more challenging and people would've complained anyway. I mean, they'll probably complain about something nevertheless.

I don't know how soon you'll see original material from me. I'm thinking about uploading some riffs and licks as long as I don't have recorded songs. But I can't promise anything. It might be best to just stay away from filming half-finished music. Or I might transition to instagram for that, as that format seems to be more fitting for short lick and riff type videos. The good thing is that I have a full recording line-up already. Through youtube and playing live I met wonderful and great musicians and a few of them even want to make and record music with/for me.

Anyway, in the meantime, enjoy this video :)
