Imelda Marcos : First Lady of Shoes - the fifth estate

She may now be best known for her outrageous shoe collection but in 1983, Imelda Marcos was also a member of her husband Ferdinand Marcos’ cabinet and was poised to replaced him as President. She avoids talking any political aspirations and instead tells Bob McKeown that her role as First Lady is more to be a soldier for duty and love, modelling an ideal husband wife relationship to her public. Marcos and her husband were exiled in 1986 but after her husband’s death, Marcos was permitted to return. She is now a member of the house of representatives.
