October 7 | The Art of Protest: Civil Rights, Social Justice, and #BlackLivesMatter // Daphne McFerren, Executive Director, Benjamin Hooks Center, University of Memphis

John McFerren was a leader of the equal rights push for African Americans in Fayette County, Tennessee. He led a voting registration drive to increase the number of African American voters and to integrate Fayette County Schools in 1965 in Fayette County. The voter registration drive led to organized retaliation against McFerren, his family and newly registered voters. His daughter, Daphene McFerren, the executive director of the Hooks Institute for Social Change at the University of Memphis will tell the story of her remarkable father’s work.
