Treating a Choking Adult

This video is part of a new series of basic clinical skills videos.

It demonstrates how to perform the Heimlich Manoeuvre to treat someone who is choking/whose airway is obstructed with a foreign body.

Prior to performing this manoeuvre, attempt to dislodge the foreign body by striking the patient's back as they lean forward.

If performing the manoeuvre, consider that the patient may expel the foreign body but at the same time vomit, and so if there is time, think about where they are facing.
