Cannizzaro’s Reaction: Preparation of Benzyl Alcohol & Benzoic Acid
This video describes theoretical demonstration of experimental steps involved in Cannizzaro’s reaction. The formation of benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid has been discussed. The mechanism of cannizzaro’s reaction has been discussed. It has been discussed that why this reaction is called disproportionation or self oxidation-reduction reaction. The extraction of benzyl alcohol from the reaction mixture has been discussed. It has also been discussed that how we can separate benzoic acid by acidification of its potassium salt present in aqueous phase.
