Mexico performs at Spasskaya Tower - 2015 International Military Music Festival

By FAR the hit of the show, VIVA MEXICO!!!! The Eighth International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower” will take place from 5th to 13th of September 2015 in Moscow, on Red Square. The history of the Representative Music Band of the Mexican Armed Forces began in 1889 when, at the initiative of the president general Porfirio Diaz the Music Band of the Supreme Power. Later it changed its name several times always remaining the main military band of the country. In 1973 it was called the Music Band of the Mexican Armed Forces. It accompanied the most important state ceremonies and events, played for the heads of the states and gave concerts in whole Mexico and abroad.

On 20th February 2015 it was complemented with personnel from the different Music Bands in the Army, Air Force and Navy, with the goal of integrating a Band that will represent the three Armed Forces, and was named Music Band Representative of the Mexican Armed Forces. In summer 2015 the newly founded group participated in the prestigious music-military festival in Saumur (France), and in autumn will demonstrate its’ high-quality skills at Red Square.

The Director of the Band, Agripino Centeno Blanco, says that their participation will serve to spread Mexican music traditions abroad, and the musicians hope to leave a good mark of Mexico and exchange experiences with the other foreign and Russian bands.

The best Russian and foreign military bands, folk groups as well as honorary guard units of the heads of states will take part in the event. At the end of each performance the joint band of all the participants – around 1,500 musicians – will appear on the Red Square. All the musicians of the Festival will play the final chords to the salvoes of the salute, with the light show on the St. Basil’s Cathedral as the background.

As in the previous years, the festival will be timed to coincide with the Moscow City Day. On the first day of the celebration a procession will march along the Tverskaya Street which will include the bands participating in “Spasskaya Tower”, and on the next day they will give free concerts in the city parks. Following the tradition that has been already established, as a part of the festival the riders from the Kremlin Horse Riding School will perform in a specially equipped manege on the Red Square, and for the youngest spectators the project Spasskaya Tower for Kids will erect a kids’ village with educational entertainment activities.
