Level 1- Gear Ball

Level 10- Piezo Film Flicker: a neon bulb flashes from electricity created by the mechanical deformation of a strip of polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) piezo film. Rapidly fanning the flexible strip produces 5 to 7 flashes per bending cycle- each flash occurring when the strip generates near 90V- the breakdown voltage of the neon gas in the bulb. The piezo film sandwiched between insulating layers in this transducer module is only 0.1 mm thick! In general the piezoelectric effect is the ability of certain materials to generate electric charge when deformed under mechanical stress. Thanks to Tim Rowett for providing me with this amazing physics toy.

Level 50- Ferrofluid Magician: whimsical and wonderful physics toy from Taiwan. With a magnet in his hat (and a dove on his head) this little conjurer embodies our tag line here on physicsfun: "physics describes the real magic of the universe"! In this interesting and novel design the vial includes some white sand which provides something for the magnetic fluid to interact with and keeps the interior glass clean. Many thanks to mrscisciencefactory for sending me this physics magic 🎩.

Level 60- Tensegrity Table (Impossible Table)

Level 70- Rhythmic Ferrofluid: an iridescent magnetic fluid interacts with a variable strength electromagnet (like those found in speakers). A circuit supplies power to the electromagnet in proportion to the sound waves picked up by a microphone, the changing magnetic field- combined with the liquid surface tension of the colloidal ferromagnetic liquid- produces the captivating motion that keeps time with any music played.

Level 80- Gyro-Carouselu

Level 90- Double Pendulum with Glow Tracer Screen

Level 100- "Top Secret": this top will stay spinning for more than a week- because it is actually a motor! The top is a dipole magnet (as revealed by Magneview film) and the base has an electromagnet that gives the dipole a push when the top comes near the center. An ingeniously simple circuit consisting of only a battery, a coil, and a transistor, is activated when the spinning magnet nears the coil turning on the electromagnet to give a boost to the spin of the magnetic top.
