In today's video, I'm finally bringing you guys the video you all have been asking for, Joe Harris Shooting Secrets! Joe Harris has absolutely blasted on to the scene over the past season for the Brooklyn Nets becoming one of the best shooters in the entire NBA, and even winning the NBA's 3-point Contest! Joe Harris has some really sound shooting mechanics that helps him hit shots at a super high level!
The first mechanic that I notice when looking at Joe Harris's jumper is his, "Pendulum" simply meaning when Joe Harris Shoots the ball his feet sweep forward just slightly. The reason why this is super important to hitting more shots is that it gives Joe Harris a LOT more rhythm and flow going into his jumper! His pre-shot mechanics are absolutely locked in when he catches he does a phenomenal job of getting his nose over his knees which naturally gets him into great position right away! As Joe Harris is in his natural Zig Zag position he's able to translate that momentum up into his jump shot, thus giving him more power and flow as he shoots the ball. This may seem like a relatively small thing, but his ability to catch and get the shot off quickly is one reason why he is ascending as one of the best shooters in the NBA!
The second mechanic we look at is his, "Feet Rotation" this is incredibly important for Joe Harris and his jumper because without the rotation of his hips when he shoots it would inevitably cause him to miss a lot of shots short. By Joe Harris rotating his hips and land with his feet rotated he naturally unlocks the power chain up his shooting motion. Another benefit to rotating your hips through is that it will unleash a ton of shoulder tension that you may experience if you shoot to square to the basket.
The third mechanic that I teach when we are talking about Joe Harris and his jump shot is his ball dip! A ball dip is HUGELY important for a number of different reasons, but the number one reason it's so important is that it helps Joe Harris with his fluidity when shooting. If you watch any clips of Joe Harris shooting he typically loads the ball lower around his thigh area before bringing the ball up to shoot. This is something that a TON of great shooters do on their jumpers, guys like Steph Curry and James Harden! A lot of shooting coaches may say this will cause you to get blocked, but that's simply not true. We have tested and examined thousands of shooters over the years and one thing that a lot of really great shooters have in common is the ball dip!
Alright, Shotmechanics family I hope this Joe Harris Shooting Secrets has helped you maybe find some mechanics that you can try out on your own jump shot! As always experimenting with your own jumper to see what feels right is always something that I recommend you do, it's all about hitting more shots in game-like situations so keep that in mind when you are training!
